Policies and Procedures

Print Books: Kindergarten and first grade students may borrow 1 book for 2 weeks. Second & third grade students may borrow 2 books for 2 weeks. Fourth and fifth grade students may borrow three books for 2 weeks. Books may be renewed one time.  Fines are assessed for lost or damaged books. Checkouts will be restricted until fines are paid or overdue books are returned.

E-books:  All students can check out 1 ebook in addition to the number of printed book checkouts allowed for their grade level.  Students are able to check out and read ebooks at home by visiting the Destiny Quest website and using their personal login and password.

You can install the free Destiny Quest app on your tablet or phone.  After you install the app, you will be prompted for a URL address.  Enter http://destiny.douglas.k12.ga.us/.  Then select Dorsett Shoals Elementary.  Students can now enter the site using their Destiny login and password.

All students can check out one ebook at a time for up to two weeks in addition to their printed books they check out from the school library.  Students are able to return ebooks early at any time, plus these books cannot be lost or damaged.

The DSES ebook collection continues to grow with more than 730 ebooks available to students and teachers.  Thanks to Google for providing grant money so the school could purchase these ebooks.

AR Goals:
Students are encouraged to read every day and participate in Accelerated Reader testing at school.   Grade level AR point goals for the school year are as follows:
Kindergarten - 10 points, 1st Grade - 20 points, 2nd Grade - 30 points, 3rd Grade - 50 points, 4th Grade - 65 points, 5th Grade - 80 points.

Parents can check student AR progress by going to Renaissance Place Home Connect and using the student AR login and password to see the student's account.  Once a student is logged in to Renaissance Place Home Connect, other books in their reading zone are suggested.  You can check and see if books you own or borrow from public libraries have an AR test by going to AR Book Find.
