 Guidance and Counseling Program

Classroom Guidance

Classroom Guidance is offered to all students.  Topics included are developmental in nature such as making friends, getting along with others, goal setting, decision-making and personal safety.  Classroom Guidance is delivered through large group instruction.

Group Guidance/Counseling

Group Guidance/Counseling is provided for students who might benefit from participating in a small group with others who have the same need or concern.  Group Guidance involves small groups of students who work on developmental issues such as making friends or study skills.  Group Counseling addresses special concerns in a small group setting. Teacher and Parent referral forms are available at the school.  Students may request services by sending a note to the counselor or asking their teacher to request an appointment for them.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is provided at the request of school staff, parents, or students.  Students meet with the counselor individually to address a problem the student is having.  Difficulties with learning, behavior or home issues may be addressed.  School counseling is not intended to be long term or in- depth. Students who need more in-depth services than the school counselor can provide a resource list.

Consulting

The counselor consults with school staff and parents on an as needed or as requested basis.  The counselor provides information about additional resources to parents and school staff.
